Darren Sutton isn’t a man who thinks small. From his beginnings as founder of Bonterra Builders in 2003, to the creation of Sutton Capital in 2018, Darren has developed the well-earned reputation of a trustworthy visionary. Known as one of the most reputable and meticulous builders in the Carolinas, Darren has centered his career around developing communities and building homes that bring value to both the buyer and the builders.

Graduating from East Carolina University with a degree in Construction Management, Darren identified his true passion at an early age. His first step toward fulfilling his lifelong vision was in the formation of Bonterra Builders, a company that in less than 20 years became a nationally recognized presence with operations in both North and South Carolina. Recognized in 2007 as the number one fastest growing Home Builder by Builder’s Magazine, Darren had the ability to forecast and adapt in real time by weathering one of the worst home building cycles in 80 years. Coming out stronger, Darren was recognized by Builder Magazine in 2013 as one of the top ten builders in their Next 100. When acquired by AV Homes in 2015, Bonterra had over 30 active communities and was building approximately 600 new homes a year. Not wanting to interrupt that momentum, AV asked Darren to stay on to run the newly acquired company as the Charlotte Division President until 2018.

Looking to start a new chapter Darren founded Sutton Capital Group shortly after leaving Bonterra Builders in 2018. A privately held real estate development firm, Sutton Capital has grown considerably since inception. Today, Sutton Capital is developing masterplan residential communities and commercial properties in the Carolinas, either exclusively or in partnership with other ventures. Encompassing over 1,000 acres of land, these projects are thriving under the guidance and oversight of one of the most experienced developers in the industry.
